Rural life is beautiful.
It’s also hard. You’re smack dab in the middle of a changing landscape complete with market volatility and unpredictable weather.
You don’t have to navigate this alone.
IFS-informed EMDR-trained therapist Vanessa Hofer explaining why rural mental health now.
Why we do what we do
Because there’s a need. The data backs this up: Farmers, for example, face health challenges at alarming rates. Some data shows U.S. farmers' suicide rate is 3.5 times higher than the general population, with stress, financial instability, and remoteness fueling distress (Farm BureauWikipedia).
Because isolation is a silent health hazard. Nearly 1 in 3 U.S. adults report feeling lonely, and 1 in 4 lack social or emotional support. Isolation is now considered a more widespread public-health threat than smoking or diabetes (CDCRural Health Info). Don’t get me wrong, Rural America is full of richly connected small communities. However, avoiding isolation and loneliness is simply logistically harder with more miles between us.
Because what we offer actually works. Data now shows that telemedicine visits often match or nearly match the effectiveness of seeing a therapist in-person. (Nature).
